Portsmouth City Teaching PCT recently ran a sexual health campaign aimed at raising awareness of safe sex and finding out more about the city’s bedroom habits. The Something for the Weekend team headed for the University’s Freshers’ Fair, Portsmouth football ground, Cascades shopping centre and were out and about around Guildhall Walk’s pubs and bars.
The team were handing out free condoms with information about local services and encouraging visitors to reveal all about their sex lives on confidential electronic polling machines kiosks as well as running a game show-style stage show (at the Freshers Fair).
“It’s important to use condoms correctly so that you stay safe... The message – limit your drinking and stay in control – was clear,” said Carolyn Watts, Public Health Development Manager at Portsmouth City PCT.
The survey kiosks were based at the Ella Gordon Unit at St Mary’s Hospital for a week (which is one of many services in the city that can advise on all aspects of safe sex and provide contraception). The campaign website is: www.something4theweekend.org
